cbs.sportsline.com/ San Jose Mercury News Phil Haig. That's the answer to the Raiders' quarterback quandary for this season. Why Phil Haig? Simple: He was interested in going to the University of Minnesota until the school found another candidate, and that's how Lane Kiffin was available to be the Raiders' coach too. Yep, we're thinking this quarterback/mentor job could start to look like the coach search -- those who could work elsewhere won't come, and those who would come can't work elsewhere. Amid rumors that the Bucs would trade him to the Raiders, Jake Plummer announces his retirement. "I leave the game with my health and happiness," he says on his Web site. He ain't keeping either of those in Oaktown. ProFootballTalk notes that Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers could be part of the Randy Moss talks. Yes, the loving and functional Raiders environment would surely break the Tedford Jinx. Drew Bledsoe would be excellent in showing JaMarcus Russell how to stand in one place and heave the ball as far as he could to nobody in particular. But can't Andrew Walter do that for less money? Jeff George. It seems like only last year we were talking about his comeback -- because it was only last year. Phil Haig. That's all we're saying.
