Here is a list of the last player taken in the NFL draft since the AFL-NFL merger.
2005 — Andy Stokes, TE, pick No. 255 (William Penn) by Patriots. Stokes was cut by the Patriots during training camp. Is currently on the Cardinals' roster.
2004 — Andre Sommersell, LB, pick No. 255 (Colorado State) by Raiders. Was on Colts' roster in 2005.
2003 — Ryan Hoag, WR, pick No. 262 (Gustavus Adolphus) by Raiders. Currently a member of the Vikings.
2002 — Ahmad Miller, DT, pick No. 261 (UNLV) by Texans.
2001 — Tevita Ofahengaue, TE, pick No. 246 (BYU) by Cardinals. Cut in training camp. Did not play a down in NFL.
2000 — Michael Green, DB, pick No. 254 (Northwestern Louisiana State) by Bears. Made roster, played in seven games, and recorded three tackles in 2000. In 2001, Green played in all 16 games, starting in two, and registered three sacks.
1999 — Jim Finn, FB, pick No. 253 (Penn) by Bears. Waived by the Bears at the end of training camp in 1999. Spent a month on Bears' practice squad. Signed with Colts as a free agent after '99 season. Fumbled in only rush attempt in 2000 season. Caught four passes for 13 yards and one touchdown. In 2001, Finn played in 15 games for the Colts.
1998 — Cam Quayle, TE, pick No. 241 (Weber State) by Ravens. Cut in training camp. Played in NFL Europe with the Barcelona Dragons in 1999. In 1999, Quayle was a member of the Jaguars during the preseason, but was cut before the start of the regular season.
1997 — Ronnie McAda, QB, pick No. 240 (Army) by Packers. Was a backup quarterback for the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe in 1999. Never appeared in a game for the Packers. Placed on military reserve list after training camp in 1997. Was in training camp with the Broncos in 2001, but did not make the regular season roster.
1996 — Sam Manuel, LB, pick No. 240 (New Mexico State) by 49ers. Was a part of (with twin brother Sean) the first brother combo to be selected in the same NFL Draft (one year later, twin brothers Tiki and Ronde Barber were selected together in the 1997 NFL Draft). Cut in training camp. Played one season for the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe. Played in the XFL with the San Francisco Demons.
1995 — Mike Reed, DB, pick No. 249 (Boston College) by Panthers. Made roster and played in three games in two-year career (one game in 1995, two games in '96).
1994 — Marty Moore, LB, pick No. 222 (Kentucky) by Patriots. In the 26-year history of the dubious Mr. Irrelevant distinction, Moore has been the most successful. Patriots acquired the rights to the final pick in the '94 NFL Draft as compensation from the Cowboys in exchange for quarterback Hugh Millen. In his seven-year career, Moore has played in 106 games, starting in 17 of those games. Played for the Patriots from 1994-99. Appeared in Super Bowl XXXI when the Patriots faced the Packers. Has recorded two interceptions. Moore last played for the Cleveland Browns in 2000.
1993 — Daron Alcorn, K, pick No. 224 (Akron) by Buccaneers. Made roster, then was injured, which paved the way for Michael Husted (who kicked for the Buccaneers from 1993-98). Alcorn never appeared in a regular season game.
1992 — Matt Elliott, C, pick No. 336 (Michigan) by Redskins. Played in 16 games for Redskins in 1992. Played for Panthers from 1995—97, appearing in 15 games in '95, 16 games in '96 and 16 games in '97.
1991 — Larry Wanke, QB, pick No. 334 (John Carroll) by Giants. Cut in training camp.
1990 — Demitrius Davis, TE, pick No. 331 (Nevada) by Raiders. Cut before start of the regular season.
1989 — Everett Ross, WR, pick No. 335 (Ohio State) by Vikings. Cut in training camp.
1988 — Jeff Beathard, S, pick No. 333 (Oregon State) by Rams. Cut in training camp.
1987 — Norman Jefferson, DB, pick No. 335 (Louisiana State) by Packers. Played two seasons with the Packers (1987-88). Played in 12 games in '87, returning two kickoffs for 30 yards. In '88, returned five punts for 15 yards, and returned four kickoffs for 116 yards. Recovered five fumbles in his two-year career.
1986 — Mike Travis, S, pick No. 333 (Georgia Tech) by Chargers. Cut in training camp.
1985 — Donald Chunley, OT, pick No. 336 (Georgia) by 49ers. Cut in training camp, moved on to play in the Canadian Football League.
1984 — Randy Essington, QB, pick No. 335 (Colorado) by Raiders. Cut in training camp.
1983 — John Tuggle, RB, pick No. 335 (California) by Giants. Made team, played in 16 games during '83 season. Rushed for 49 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown, and caught three passes for 50 yards. Returned nine kickoffs for a total of 156 yards.
1982 — Tim Washington, DB, pick No. 334 (Fresno State) by 49ers. Played in two games during 1982 season, one with the 49ers and another after moving on to the Chiefs.
1981 — Phil Nelson, TE, pick No. 332 (Delaware) by Raiders. Cut in training camp.
1980 — Kevin Scanlon, QB, pick No. 332 (Arkansas) by Rams. Cut before the start of the regular season.
1979 — Mike Almond, WR, pick No. 334 (Northwestern Louisiana State) by Steelers. Cut in training camp.
