The Raiders traded quarterback Carson Palmer to the Arizona Cardinals Tuesday, a day after acquiring Matt Flynn from the Seattle Seahawks, receiving a sixth round draft pick in 2013 and a conditional seventh-round selection in 2014.
The Raiders receive the seventh-round pick if Palmer starts 13 games for Arizona this season. To get Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals, the Raiders surrendered first- and second-round draft picks in 2011.
Oakland will give up a seventh-round pick to Arizona this year, No. 219 overall, a selection previously acquired from Carolina in exchange for wide receiver Louis Murphy.
The Raiders announced the trade in a press release.
Palmer, who reportedly rejected salary reduction from $13 million to $10 million to remain with Oakland, will get $20 million over two seasons to be the starting quarterback for the Cardinals, according to the NFL Network.
Regarding the perception that Palmer walked away from the Raiders because of his lack of faith in the organization, Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Monday, ``I'm not really going to get into all those types of negotiations.
``I think at the end of the day, when we looked at it, both from his standpoint and our standpoint, we just realized that it was time for us to move on and move forward, and we felt like Matt Flynn gave us a great option.''
Palmer counts $9.34 million against the Raiders salary cap this season due to acceleration on the contract he renegotiated last year. He was at the Arizona facility Tuesday, the first day players were allowed to meet with coaches.
