KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali called the Raiders "dirty" last week. The offensive linemen responded to that - and to disappointing efforts in their previous two games - by keeping quarterback Carson Palmer clean Sunday.
"Phenomenal," Palmer said. "I don't think my jersey needs to be washed."
Palmer wasn't sacked once and remembers getting hit only once "when I held onto the ball too long."
Pretty impressive considering that Hali and Justin Houston had combined for 10 sacks this season.
"That was a proud group," head coach Dennis Allen said of his offensive linemen. "They play well."
Especially left tackle Jared Veldheer and right tackle Willie Smith.
"Both tackles did a really good job against them," Palmer said. "What (offensive coordinator Greg) Knapp did to neutralize those guys I'm thankful for because I had a lot of time to throw."
Palmer threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns and said a lot of big plays came as a result of Knapp's protection calls.
"His timing was awesome," Palmer said. "He kept getting us into maximum protection, and we had eight guys against their seven on a lot of our big plays. He does a great job."
Behind the tackles, guards Cooper Carlisle and Mike Brisiel and center Stefen Wisniewski, the Raiders got their running game going. Oakland gained 95 yards on the ground in the fourth quarter.
"You want to wear a defense down," said running back Darren McFadden, who had 73 yards on 12 carries in the fourth quarter. "I felt like we did that today and eventually we were able to get them to break out."
