The Texas Premier Football Camp hosted by B.J. Johnson, Sloan Thomas and Roy Williams has announced an updated guest coach list and some additions to the schedule of activities.
The two day, non-contact camp will be led by Richard Hightower, current coach with the Houston Texans and former University of Texas letterman. Guest coaches accompanying Coach Hightower will include: Michael Huff, Oakland Raiders; Bo Scaife, Tennessee Titans; Nathan Vasher, Chicago Bears; Derrick Johnson, Kansas City Chiefs; Kasey Studdard, Houston Texans; Aaron Ross, New York Giants; Cedric Griffin, Minnesota Vikings; James Brown, Kwame Cavil, Kalen Thornton and more. Additionally, Major Applewhite is scheduled to make a guest appearance on Thursday. (Guest coaches subject to change and interviews may be available at lunch time.)
In addition to learning the exact skills, exercises and systems that are used in the NFL, on Friday, campers will attend a brief lecture on sports injury prevention and proper hydration techniques given by Tareka Wheeler, the Injury Prevention Coordinator for Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas. To conclude the two day experience, thanks to Russell Korman, camp participants will be treated to a fun fair complete with refreshments and a Games 2 U climate-controlled mobile video game truck.
In 49 career games (45 starts) at The University of Texas, Johnson made 152 receptions for 2,389 yards with 16 touchdowns while adding 14 rushes for 82 yards (5.9 avg.). Plagued by injuries after signing with the Denver Broncos in 2004, Johnson decided to pursue his dream of starting his own development company and has partnered with a friend to start a clothing line. Thomas played in 46 games (20 starts) for The University of Texas. He caught 88 passes for 1,362 yards and 12 touchdowns. After being drafted in 2004 by the Houston Texans, Thomas spent three years in the NFL before returning to Texas to earn a degree in Communications. He currently works for The University of Texas System in the Office of Development. Williams started 40 games during his career at Texas and shattered school career-records with 241 receptions for 3,866 yards (16.0 avg) and 36 touchdowns. Drafted in the first round, seventh overall, in 2004 by the Detroit Lions, Williams has emerged as one of the NFL's elite receivers and in 2007 became the first wide receiver to represent Detroit in a Pro Bowl since Herman Moore played in the game in 1999.
Full camp details can be found at TexasPremierCamp.com. Partial proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area.
