RealFootball365.com took a look at a few retired Oakland Raiders on Tuesday; today with NFL in full lull, a shout to three high-ranking members of Raider Nation contributing to an interesting event partnering up for a good cause. Here’s to hoping some reader in the Los Angeles area has a chance to give as well.
The news blitz is coming from civil organization LA Sports & Entertainment Commission, an official body designed “to seek, host, promote and retain major sporting and entertainment events that positively impact the local economy.” Said current event is the unique happening “NFL 101/201: Get Ready for Some Football: An Intimate Evening with NFL Legends.” In hosting the program, LASEC and the NFL are partnering with Special Olympics Southern California.
This marks the sixth year of the event, which promises real-life experience with football players and execs. Promised are “a passing competition, an opportunity to catch passes from a NFL quarterback, a field goal kicking challenge, an NFL equipment demonstration, an NFL photo opportunity and locker room tours that include official uniform displays for all 32 NFL teams. The event, which includes a cocktail reception and a buffet dinner, will conclude with a panel discussion with NFL legends.”
So it’s kind of like a four-hour fantasy camp, then.
The silver and black is represented by three of the 20 or so luminaries past and present at the event. Tim Brown will be there, thereby allowed a quick rundown of the man’s highlights: 1,094 career receptions, currently third most in NFL history; 14,934 receiving yards, second most in league history; exactly 100 receiving touchdowns, tied with Steve Largent for sixth all time; 175 straight regular-season starts – nearly 11 years – for the Raiders, a seemingly unassailable team record; nine Pro Bowl selections; nine straight seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards; and contributed 16,376 all-purpose yards for the Raiders, tops by far in franchise history.
Presumably Brown will be participating in passing demos and the like, possibly playing ball with Cade McNown, the sole quarterback listed for the event thus far. Feel free to wish Brown luck in his Hall of Fame bid on behalf of RealFootball365.com come panel time.
Representing the Raiders from the front office is a true All-Pro-level executive, chief executive officer Amy Trask.
Trask, who has been described as “crazed about the Raiders every bit as much as any die-hard,” holds the highest ranking for a woman in NFL history, and has done so since 1997. In terms of trophies, Trask is most noted for her 2002 nod as a top 75 Most Influential Bay Area Businesswoman by the San Francisco Business Times. But perhaps more importantly is the way she moves some Raider backers to song.
Finally, Greg Townsend will also attend NFL 101/201. The former defensive master experienced (and created) quite a few great moments while the Raiders called Los Angeles home, playing 11 years for the organization and putting in four straight All-Pro seasons from 1988-1991; his 109.5 career sacks give him 15th spot on the all-time list for the statistic and a place in the heart of late-‘80s/early ‘90s Raider fans forever.
If anyone’s interested, in the area, and possibly has some out-of-town business clients to impress, here’s the sales pitch for NFL 101/201.
