Former Georgia quarterback John Rauch, who started every game for the Bulldogs from 1945-48, died Tuesday at his Oldsmar, Fla., home.
Rauch, 80, started all 45 games of his college career. He was the first player in NCAA history to start four straight bowl games. He threw for 4,044 yards in his career, which at the time was the NCAA record.
Rauch led the Bulldogs to a 36-8-1 record and two SEC titles. He was an All-American and the SEC Player of the Year his senior season. Rauch was the No. 1 player taken in the 1949 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions. He had a four-year pro career.
He returned to Georgia as an assistant coach from 1955-58.
Rauch became head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 1966. He led the Raiders to Super Bowl II.
Rauch was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
