Raiders.com: When did you start playing football?
Tim Brown: I started playing football when I was 12 years old, in the seventh grade.
Raiders.com: How did you become a Raider?
Tim Brown: I was drafted by the Los Angeles Raiders in 1988. After my career at Notre Dame I was drafted in the first round by the L.A. Raiders.
Raiders.com: What did it mean for you to play for the Raiders?
Tim Brown: Well, to be honest with you, at that particular time I was looking for the best team for Tim Brown to play for. After not being picked first by the Atlanta Flacons, we looked down the list at the next nine teams and we thought that the best team for me to play for was the Raiders, because of the roster that they already had and it worked out great. I don’t know what my agent said to those four teams in between, but some kind of way he got me to the Raiders pick.
Raiders.com: Is there any one moment or play that stands out in your career?
Tim Brown: Well certainly, when I came to the realization that I was going to be playing in the Super Bowl for the first time late in the [2002 AFC] Championship game was a remarkable moment in my career.
Raiders.com: Do you keep in contact with any of your former teammates?
Tim Brown: Yeah, Jerry Porter., Jerry Rice, and Shane Lechler. are some of the guys I try and keep in contact with.
Raiders.com: Which team did you enjoy playing against the most?
Tim Brown: Probably the Kansas City Chiefs. I think those guys had some defensive backs at that time for five or six years, that were very difficult to play against, but it always brought the best out of you. It was something that I always looked forward to.
Raiders.com: Do you attend any Raiders games now?
Tim Brown: I was at two games last year, so I hope to be able to get to more next year.
Raiders.com: What are you doing now?
Tim Brown: Well, I’ll give you the short list - the long list would take too long, but I’m trying to put my NASCAR team together, Tim Brown Racing, and hopefully this year we’ll be able to make our debut at least in the truck series. I’m also in the process of putting together a major fundraiser. We signed a contract with an organization that has 52 million kids in it, so we’re putting together a gift card/debt card fundraiser for them so that the purchase of every card will raise funds for each individual organization. And then Roger Staubach is trying to convince me to get into the real estate business and he’s not having a very difficult time doing that, I can you tell that. Being down here in Dallas, we’re looking at possibly being able to do something with him. And then I have the TV gig that I’m doing.
Raiders.com: Are there any messages that you would like to pass on to Raiders fans?
Tim Brown: Well as always, I tell Raider Nation to hang in there and keep supporting the team. I know it’s been tough the last couple of years, those guys are obviously trying to play good football. Just keep supporting the Silver and Black and the thing will get turned around.
