As legendary Raiders head coach John Madden prepares to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, on Saturday, August 5th, we present a look back at the 16 proud members of the Silver and Black who have previously earned such distinction. We finish with OT Bob Brown, who was enshrined in 2004.
Inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 8, 2004, Bob Brown, who was known as an aggressive and punishing blocker, is the 14th modern-era player who played primarily as a tackle to be elected. Other Hall of Fame tackles include Oakland Raider Legend, Hall of Famer and head coach Art Shell. As well as, Roosevelt Brown, Lou Creekmur, Dan Dierdorf, Forrest Gregg, Lou Groza (also PK), Mike McCormack, Ron Mix, Anthony Munoz, Jim Parker (G-T), Bob St. Clair, Jackie Slater, and Ron Yary.
Brown was the Eagles' first-round draft pick (2nd player overall) in the 1964 NFL Draft. He played 10 seasons in the NFL, his last three with the Raiders (1971-1973) and was selected for six Pro Bowls, one while with the Raiders.
According to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's website, Brown once described himself as being "about as subtle as a sixteen-pound sledgehammer." Defensive linemen, who almost always came away with their ribs aching from the punishment he delivered, agreed.
He was named All-NFL seven of his 10 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles (1964-68), Los Angeles Rams (1969-70), and Oakland Raiders (1971-73) and was the NFL/NFC offensive lineman of the year three times
