chiefsblog.kansascity.com by Randy Covitz Not really. But when I asked Chiefs coach Todd Haley and general manager Scott Pioli if they had any memories or anecdotes about John Madden, who retired from broadcasting on Thursday, Haley showed a sense or humor. "As a young kid, following my dad around the Steelers, I hated John Madden on the sidelines," said Haley, whose father, Dick, was a longtime Pittsburgh personnel man when the Steelers and Raiders dueled for AFC supremecy. "I hated the Raiders. When he went through his stuff on the sidelines ... I told him that at the owners meetings when I just saw him, I said, 'Growing up a Steelers fan, I hated the Raiders' and couldn't stand anybody with the Raiders...''' Haley got to know Madden a little bit during the 2008 playoffs when NBC televised the Super Bowl and had production meetings with the Arizona coaching staff. "He's a smart man," Haley said, "I had great respect for him, obviously, he was a great coach. But in those production meetings, in the little bit of time I got to know him, I thought he was something special."
