blogs.pressdemocrat.comby Robert Rubino Pastorini was the third overall pick in the 1971 draft and had taken his bumps and bruises but by 1979 had led the Oilers into AFC championship two years in a row. Stabler was a icon of the Oakland Raiders, winning a Super Bowl after the 1976 season. But the Raiders had failed to reach the playoffs in 1978 and '79. How did the trade work out? Well, Pastorini was 2-3 as a starter, then missed the rest of the season with a broken leg. Jim Plunkett replaced Pastorini as the starter and led the Raiders to a Super Bowl victory that season. Pastorini had a disastrous stint with the Rams the following year, missed the 1982 season, played three games with the Eagles in '83 and that was it for his NFL career. Stabler led the Oilers into the playoffs in 1980, where he was beaten in the first round by Plunkett and the Raiders. But he struggled in 1981, was mediocre with the Saints in '82 and '83, then ended his career after three appearances in 1984.
