NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue and Denver Broncos owner Paul Bowlen met with Anaheim mayor Curt Pringle and Orange County businessmen over dinner regarding a possible expansion. Both NFL representatives also met with Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Wednesday According to the AP, the league will finance up to $600 million for construction of new stadiums. Both cities made interesting proposals, but nothing has been finalized, and other cities are still being considered. Bowlen says, "I wouldn't say this one's better or that one's better. I don't have any choices in mind. I clearly think we've got two very viable alternatives here." Los Angeles and Anaheim each lost its franchise in 1994. The Raiders left Los Angeles for Oakland while the Rams departed Anaheim for St. Louis. Tagliabue intends to examine all options before making a decision, saying, "We are looking at investing multiple millions of dollars."
