Skins Spurrier Resigns, Owner Snyder Out of Money
The Associated Press
Tuesday, December 30, 2003; 3:15PM
In a pair of startling developments out of the Washington Redskins
headquarters, Coach Steve Spurrier tendered his resignation, while shortly
thereafter, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder discovered he had run out of money.
It was suspected that Spurrier and Snyder were going to work out necessary
changes to allow Spurrier to continue coaching the team, but after a quick
turn of events, Spurrier commented, "At the get go, we were going to work it
out so I could continue to coach ball. Unfortunately, we ran in to a
sticking point when Daniel required that I actually work. At that point I
decided to leave the organization and attempt to find a new organization to
not work for."
Coincidentally, shortly after Spurrier's agent negotiated his resignation
and the end of his contract, Snyder ran out of money. While fortunate that
he is longer required to pay millions of dollars for Spurrier's coaching
services,Snyder is now left with no money for a new coach. Said the young
owner of the Redskins, "Apparently my ATM withdrawls were adding up at a
much faster rate than I realized, and the next thing I knew - I was out of
money. Fortunately, I do have a sweet Alpine stereo system and speakers I
can sell off to cover existing operating expenses."
In order to maintain order with the team, the Prince George's County
Department of Education has agreed to provide the Redskins with a substitute
coach for the 2004 season. It is expected that the players will be given a
playbook and asked to sit and read quietly.
