weblogs.newsday.comBy Bob Glauber The Broncos started their off-season workout program today, and Jay Cutler was not around. Not a surprise, considering Cutler is still miffed at the team for getting involved in trade talks for Matt Cassel. Jets fans are particularly anxious to see what happens with all of this, but again, I caution against expecting too much. For starters, Cutler will be an expensive proposition, both in terms of draft-choice compensation and dollars; there is every reason to believe he will include a massive contract extension before agreeing to any trade. Moreover, I still find Cutler's behavior in all this less than exemplary. He has complained long and loud in a very public forum, and by refusing to meet individually with head coach Josh McDaniels (Cutler insisted on his agent being there, too), he didn't show his coach much. I'll grant you that Cutler was within his rights to ask that his agent be there, but let's face it. If these two guys are ever going to get along, it's because they work things out man-to-man, not coach-to-player/agent. I'm sure the Jets are paying close attention to what's going on, although their attention early this week is on Kansas State quarterback Josh Freeman. That said, Rex Ryan has to think long and hard about whether he wants a quarterback who is reacting so sensitively. After all, this is New York, and this place doesn't take too kindly to athletes who can't take criticism.
